ADOPT A FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS!
What the holiday season means to the families at
Refuge House
With the holiday season right around the corner, we are turning our attention making this time easier for the women and children we serve. For many of them, the holidays are filled with painful memories and a longing for a peaceful family gathering. The holidays can also be a time of frustration for mothers who have very little money with which to buy gifts for their children and food for their special holiday meal. Our goal during the holidays is to help the families we serve begin to build new memories, ones of peace and love.
So, here’s how it works
Refuge House counselors and advocates collect holiday wishes from the families we serve—everything from sizes of socks to the toy dreams of the children. Community members, whether they be individuals or businesses or churches or organizations, adopt the families and shop for them. When all the shopping fun is done, they deliver the gifts to us. We contact the adopted family and arrange a time for them to pick up their gifts. The moms come to pick up the presents, along with wrapping paper, bows, and all the other trimmings so they can wrap everything and get ready for a great holiday season.
How Can You Help?
Please consider adopting a family, organizing a clothing or food drive, or making a donation during this holiday season. You can contact us to get more information on any of these options or to suggest an idea of your own. Getting all the holiday gifts organized and distributed is a large task! We can always use volunteers on board who are willing to help organize, sort, collect, box, and much more! If you are interested in adopting a family, volunteering, or participating in the holiday program in any way, Please bring your gifts and food to our Administration Office. You may call for directions.
Just A Few Things To Keep In Mind…
For holiday donations and adopt a family gifts, we ask that the items donated are new and unwrapped. We will gladly accept any donation of used items you would like to make, but we only distribute new items as gifts. Secondly, please do not donate items that promote alcohol, drugs, violence, or smoking. And last, but not least, in addition to providing a wonderful holiday for the children we serve, we also try to provide for the women, teens, and preteens. We often run low on items for them, but gift certificates are great gift ideas for this hard-to-shop-for group.
